2026 Autumn Colors: Where to Experience Peak Foliage in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut
The fall foliage season for 2026 has commenced, with early signs of colorful leaves emerging throughout Upstate New York.

The fall foliage season for 2026 has commenced, with early signs of colorful leaves emerging throughout Upstate New York. Drought significantly impacted the vibrancy of foliage in the Northeast during 2024 and 2025; however, the region has largely recovered this year, aside from some areas in New Hampshire and Maine.
According to Jim Salge, a fall foliage reporter for Yankee Magazine, the trees emerged from a dry year feeling well-hydrated thanks to the winter snowpack. Presently, many regions in New York State are experiencing peak foliage, particularly in the Capital-Saratoga, Greater Niagara, Chautauqua-Allegheny, and Hudson Valley areas. The Adirondacks and Catskills are mostly past their peak, while Long Island is midway through the seasonal change.
