A family in Queens is in mourning after a mother has been charged with the murder of her 5-year-old daughter, Fabiana, who tragically died in their Richmond Hill home on Wednesday night.
Franklin Cabello, the child’s grandfather, expressed the pain felt by the family, stating they are devastated by the loss. Authorities report that the mother, Francis Cabello, called 911 around 7 p.m. on Wednesday to confess to killing her daughter. Fabiana was discovered unconscious and exhibiting signs of trauma. Surveillance footage captured the moments when officers removed the girl from the residence and took her to a police vehicle. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Jamaica Hospital.
Friends and neighbors are reacting with shock, with one neighbor recalling how the young girl would give warm hugs. Concerns about the mother’s well-being had previously been raised, as she had not been seen in public with her daughter in some time. Family members noted that the mother had recent mental health challenges, including a hospitalization. As the investigation continues and the medical examiner looks into the cause of death, the family is left to navigate their grief.
