Man dies in midtown Manhattan subway platform shooting

A man was shot and killed on a subway platform in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by the NYPD. The shooting occurred around 12:21 p.m. at the station located at West 53rd Street and 7th Avenue, which services the B, D, and E train lines.

According to MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper, the incident appears to have stemmed from a dispute between two individuals. The police later clarified at a news conference that they do not consider the shooting to be a random act. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he later died.

Witness accounts indicate panic among subway riders during the shooting. A tourist named “Miller” reported her daughter spotted the shooter and attempted to alert others. The NYPD described the assailant as wearing a red tracksuit, black vest, and black face mask, and noted that he fled the scene on foot, heading north on 7th Avenue.

Officials are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
