During the second day of Eric Ulrich’s corruption trial, his nickname, ‘Waldo,’ was brought to light. The former New York City Council Member earned this moniker due to his appearance, specifically wearing glasses and having dark hair, as discussed in court amidst his co-defendants, Michael Mazzio and Joseph Livreri, who own a trucking company and a pizza shop, respectively.
The prosecution, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, presented recorded phone calls that featured Ulrich’s communications with various associates, including former Mayor Eric Adams. In a notable November 2021 call with Livreri, Ulrich mentioned an urgent task assigned by Adams’ chief adviser, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, involving the disposal of items from the campaign office. Ulrich later described the discarded items as merely trash from a conference in Puerto Rico. He also expressed that Adams had concerns about being ‘more careful with the circle’ following his election victory. More recorded calls by Ulrich are set to be introduced as evidence in the trial.
