Investigation Underway After Driver Found Shot on George Washington Bridge

Port Authority officials reported that a driver was discovered with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head following a single-vehicle accident on the George Washington Bridge on Tuesday night. Authorities received information about the crash on the upper level heading west around 7:06 p.m.

The injured individual was promptly transported to Englewood Medical Center in New Jersey, though their current condition remains unclear. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. In response to the incident, the westbound upper level of the bridge was closed, leading to significant traffic disruptions, including delays of up to 80 minutes for those heading into New York by 9 p.m. Additionally, NJ Transit reported up to 30-minute delays for buses traveling to and from the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal. Pedestrians and cyclists were also affected, as the Northwalk was closed while the South Walk remained open as an alternative route.
