Senator Collins Partners with Manchin to Promote Her Independence Ahead of Reelection

Maine Senator Susan Collins, a Republican, is emphasizing her reputation for independence as she campaigns alongside former Democratic Senator Joe Manchin during the crucial final days of her election campaign. Facing a challenge from Democrat Troy Jackson, Collins is utilizing this collaboration to highlight her bipartisanship. Manchin, who has endorsed her, noted the significance of her independence, asserting that losing Collins would mean losing the Senate’s soul.

After a campaign stop in Lewiston, Collins discussed their shared effort in bipartisan legislation. Jackson, meanwhile, is actively campaigning with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, indicating high stakes for Collins as she seeks her sixth term in what could be her most challenging election yet. As Collins distances herself from President Trump, she faces scrutiny regarding her past votes and criticisms from Jackson’s supporters.
