The New York Knicks are navigating a tricky situation with their G League affiliate in Westchester surrounding young guard Dink Pate. After committing to Providence College at the end of last season following three seasons in the G League, Pate has now opted out of college basketball due to uncertainties regarding his NCAA eligibility.
Pate, who is now 20 years old, has rejoined the Knicks organization on an Exhibit 10 contract, although he is set to play on a standard G League contract, meaning he is not bound exclusively to the team at the NBA level. This opens the door for other teams to potentially contract him, particularly if he performs well this season in Westchester.
Last season, Pate showcased his abilities with averages of 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across 50 appearances. His progress could lead to interest from other franchises, given his age and experience in the professional league.
