The Colorado Rockies initially viewed Kris Bryant as a beacon of hope when they signed him. Unfortunately, his time at Coors Field has been marred by injuries, coinciding with some of the team’s direst seasons.
Paul DePodesta, president of baseball operations, acknowledged the uncertain future regarding Bryant, indicating that the Rockies must prepare for the possibility of moving on without him. With significant financial obligations still owed to Bryant, which includes $54 million over the next two seasons, the team’s situation becomes increasingly complicated. Since beginning the 2026 season on the 60-day injured list due to chronic lumbar degenerative disc disease, Bryant’s future in Major League Baseball appears bleak. During his tenure with the Rockies, he played just 170 games, hitting 17 home runs and having a batting average of .244.
