Voters prepare to weigh-in on Trump's economy as costs continue to surge

As Americans gear up to vote on who will govern Congress and their local areas, the escalating prices of essentials like gas, rent, and housing have become crucial factors in the economy ahead of the 2026 midterms. The recent inflation report presents hurdles for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, who have pledged to enhance economic conditions for consumers.

With Election Day just two weeks away, the increasing costs are prompting voters to assess whether the GOP has effectively improved the economic landscape and their everyday lives. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicates that consumer prices increased by 3.7% year-over-year and by 0.6% in September, largely driven by a notable 9.1% rise in gasoline prices. Moreover, costs for utility services and housing continue to climb, further testing the validity of the Republicans’ economic narrative.
