The New York Knicks have reportedly engaged in an internal phishing test by disseminating a fake email offering employees complimentary NBA championship rings. Those who clicked the link in the email will be required to participate in mandatory cybersecurity training. The email began with, “Congratulations, your Employee Championship Ring is here,” leading to repercussions for any employees at Madison Square Garden who interacted with it, according to The New York Times.
In an article by Joe Vardon from The Athletic, it was noted that while employees often receive rings, the ones being offered in this email were not real. The assistant coaches of the Knicks did not receive actual rings during a recent banner-raising ceremony, although they are expected to receive them eventually. There remains uncertainty about how many employees clicked the phishing link and whether any will ultimately receive genuine championship rings.
