Present Company recently held a preview performance of John Patrick Shanley’s 1996 work, Psychopathia Sexualis, in a private Brooklyn home rather than a traditional theater. Guests enjoyed socializing over drinks before settling in for the show, which was performed right in the living space, creating a closer connection between the performers and audience.
Tara Pacheco, co-director of the play, emphasized the magic of such a close encounter with theater, stating, “Seeing it up close makes something magical happen.” The company aims to redefine theater experiences and has collaborated with Actors’ Equity Association to ensure that performers are compensated fairly. Currently not employing understudies, Present Company plans to grow and potentially expand its offerings for more intimate theatrical experiences in the future.
