Disabled Canadian man says hospital repeatedly offered assisted death as he fought for care to stay alive

Roger Foley, a Canadian man with spinocerebellar ataxia, reported to Fox News Digital that hospital staff in Ontario consistently mentioned assisted dying during his fight for necessary home care. This troubling trend began during his prolonged hospitalization at Victoria Hospital, part of the London Health Sciences Centre, which he claims has spanned several years.

Foley shared that in a letter dated July 7, 2026, Dr. George K. Dresser, his attending physician, indicated he could depart the hospital if provided with a suitable home-care arrangement. Dresser characterized Foley’s situation as unique, asserting that his complex medical needs could not be met by existing community programs. Foley has remained resolute in his desire to manage his own care and return to his accessible apartment, despite the ongoing challenges he faces in securing adequate support.
