NY Archdiocese will soon settle $800M clergy sexual abuse claims

The Archdiocese of New York is nearing the conclusion of an $800 million settlement with 1,300 individuals who have accused clergy members, lay leaders, and educators of sexual abuse. Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks informed the priests of the archdiocese in a letter that the finalization of the agreement is anticipated in the first week of November, as first reported by The New York Times.

Hicks expressed hope that this agreement would facilitate healing for the victims and allow the archdiocese to refocus on its mission, which includes preaching the Gospel and supporting the community. Attorneys representing the victims highlighted the bravery of survivors who have sought accountability for past actions and emphasized the importance of ensuring the protection of future generations.
