The Indianapolis Colts have parted ways with general manager Chris Ballard after he spent 10 seasons with the franchise, which began in 2017. The decision, announced Monday morning, follows a disappointing 2-4 start to the 2023 season.
The pivotal moment leading to Ballard’s dismissal was a surprising home defeat against the previously winless Tennessee Titans, where the Colts allowed 20 points in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 26-20 loss.
Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon stated the urgency for change to aim for championship-level competition and emphasized that making such a move during the ongoing season was intentional. She reassured that this change will not alter the goals for the remainder of the season.
Throughout his tenure, the Colts achieved a record of 72-82-1 and made two playoff appearances. The team experienced considerable challenges at the quarterback position, cycling through 15 different starters during Ballard’s time.
As the Colts prepare for their Week 7 matchup against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, the team remains focused on competing and improving despite the leadership change.
