Elizabeth Holmes Doc 'You Can See Everything' Shocks With Massive Opening

Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, titled “You Can See Everything,” premiered to impressive box office numbers, generating more than $15 million during its limited opening weekend. This performance marks it as one of the largest documentary debuts in several decades and the best opener for a film not shown on more than 1,000 screens since “Borat” in 2006. CNN notes that it is the most successful non-music documentary since “Fahrenheit 9/11” in 2004.

Despite its lengthy three-hour runtime, several screenings in major cities like New York and Los Angeles saw sell-outs. Distributor A24 has referred to it as one of the most significant limited-release openings of the 21st century, with the film debuting on fewer than 900 screens after an unexpected premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last month.

Filmmakers Fielder and Oppenheim conducted years of secret filming with Holmes and her partner Billy Evans, capturing footage in the lead-up to Holmes’s imprisonment in 2023 for wire fraud and conspiracy against Theranos investors. Throughout the documentary, Holmes attempted to assert her innocence. Fielder’s on-camera interactions with Holmes and Evans lead the film in surprising directions, captivating both critics and audiences. The documentary boasts an impressive 99% “fresh score” on Rotten Tomatoes and an unprecedented 4.8 rating on Letterboxd.
