Bobby Pulido, a Tejano musician and the Democratic candidate for Texas’s 15th Congressional District, has provided inconsistent narratives regarding his bandmate Frankie Caballero, who is a registered sex offender. Reports from the New York Post highlighted that Pulido performed alongside Caballero for several years, including shortly after Caballero’s release from prison for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl. Initially, Pulido claimed he was unaware of Caballero’s criminal background but later conceded he knew of the musician’s incarceration without specifics of the offenses.
The controversy stems from Pulido’s long history of contradicting statements about Caballero since the mid-1990s. Despite initially asserting that he did not know about Caballero’s criminal past, he later acknowledged awareness of Caballero’s drug issues and legal troubles. A former Hidalgo County prosecutor commented that Pulido has provided multiple versions of his knowledge regarding Caballero’s offenses, raising doubts about his honesty. Additionally, Pulido’s campaign has attempted to deflect scrutiny, framing allegations as politically motivated attacks from rival Rep. Monica De La Cruz.
